Sheikha mahra al maktoum

I have a curfew when I go out and I come back home. I have to be back at a certain time. My mom, she always — like, she needs to know exactly where I am.

We have assigned drivers. I have to go with the driver; the driver has to know exactly where I am. I can go wherever I want. I have all the choices in the world like anyone does.

By Vivian Yee. Her requests to travel and study elsewhere had been denied. Her passport had been taken away. At 32, Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed al-Maktoum went nowhere without a watchful chauffeur. Her escape — planned over several years with the help of a Finnish capoeira trainer and a self-proclaimed French ex-spy — lasted less than a week.

She has not been seen since, except in a few photos released in December by her family, which says she is safely home after surviving what they said was a kidnapping. For all its megamalls, haute cuisine and dizzying skyscrapers, Dubai can flip at speed from international playground to repressive police state. It has drawn headlines in the West for detaining foreigners for holding hands in public and drinking alcohol without a license.

Last year, it was widely condemned for holding a British academicMatthew Hedges, after accusing him of being a British spy. In recent years, the authorities have also intensified a crackdown on internal dissent. She hoped it would change if she could win political asylum in the United States.

Fearing for her life if she was caught, she said she was recording the video in case she failed. Her father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, owns a large estate there and a prominent thoroughbred racing stable, Godolphin.

News reports at the time said Emirati personnel eventually tracked Shamsa to a street in Cambridge, forcing her into a car. When a Scotland Yard detective began investigating her case as a kidnapping, Dubai authorities refused to let him interview her. The case dead-ended there. Sheikha Latifa said Shamsa, the only of 30 siblings to whom she was close, had been drugged into docility ever since.

Retrieved almost immediately, she said she was held in solitary confinement for more than three years. Emirati family law allows women to be punished for disobeying, and she said she was frequently pulled out of bed to be beaten, deprived of medical care and, until the final few months, even a toothbrush. She lived in a palace behind high walls, with 40 rooms spread over four wings — one for each female relative who lived there, said Tiina Jauhiainen, a Finnish woman who had been training Sheikha Latifa in the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira.

There were about servants and an athletic compound with its own swimming pool and spa. Wherever the sheikha went, a Filipino maid went too.

But hers was a life of enforced, confined leisure. She could spend her money only on hobbies and sports, including horseback riding and scuba diving, or on treating friends to lunch or manicures.

She was not allowed to study medicine as she had wanted, friends said. Nor could she travel, even to the next-door emirate of Abu Dhabi, one of seven city-states making up the United Arab Emirates. An avid sky diver, she once parachuted secretly into an unapproved part of the city for 20 minutes of kayaking with Mr. When friends rode along in the boxy black Mercedes that often ferried her around, she put on headphones and sat in silence, refusing, in front of the driver, to say a word.

The two women snuck into neighbouring Oman before boarding a small boat to meet Mr Jaubert aboard his boat. The Nostromo set sail for the Indian coast but was intercepted by three Indian and two Emirati warships on 4 March - with Mr Jaubert claiming he and his crew were beaten by commandos.

They locked themselves in a bathroom but the cabin filled with gas. When they went on deck, she says Mr Jaubert's face was "bloody" and "unrecognisable". Indian officials said they had no information about the incident, although media reports suggest the raid was authorised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ms Jauhiainen, speaking at a news conference in London last month, said Sheikha Latifa kept repeating during the raid: "I am seeking political asylum.

She told reporters: "At that time I was told to keep my eyes shut, with a threat to be shot if I didn't comply. In a statement on Saturday, HRW said Dubai authorities must reveal her whereabouts, adding: "Failure to disclose the whereabouts and status of the princess could qualify as an enforced disappearance, given the evidence suggesting that she was last seen as UAE authorities were detaining her. He is believed to have several dozen children from multiple wives, with multiple daughters named Latifa.

In recent weeks, one of those Latifas has suddenly appeared frequently in media and local media now make no mention of the Latifa who allegedly tried to leave.

Both sides have spent millions of dollars on publicity for themselves and efforts to spread critical - and sometimes fake - stories about their rival. A financial dispute forced the Frenchman to flee the UAE that he said involved disguising himself as a woman and scuba diving to escape to international waters.

Sheikha Latifa also says in the video that she had previously attempted to flee but was caught, detained and tortured. Mr Jaubert credited the publicity for leading the Emiratis, who fed and treated him well but refused him access to a lawyer or consular official, to release him and Ms Jauhiainen. A post on Detained in Dubai's website says the pair were warned not to speak of what had occurred and that Ms Jauhiainen was called after arriving back in Finland and told to stay silent with the threat that "Sheikh Mohammed can get you anywhere in the world".

Every summer, Sheik Mohammed and his large family and enormous retinue would descend on the estate en masse. Security around the children was exhaustive. Former employees told the Guardian bodyguards and a senior member of estate staff accompanied the kids who all had code names every time they left the estate. Protection officers would track where they went and stay in constant radio contact.

There were regular security drills. Entry to the estate was via a guardhouse and electronic gates and there were security cameras covering the vast property. When Shamsa would go out riding a horse, a bodyguard would be forced to follow along on a mountain bike.

Two weeks later he was released, along with Jauhiainen and the three Filipino crew.

Let us remember, Robinson is a friend of Haya. It should also be mentioned here that, Latifa had earlier attempted to flee once while another daughter of Mohammed Maktoum, Sheikha Shamsa Al Maktoum was caught by the security men of the Dubai ruler in London while she was fleeing.

Since then, no one has ever seen Shamsa. Everyone believed, Princess Latifa was in isolation similarly as Shamsa and she might also have been drugged.

Knowing this, Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum turned violent and she started screaming, shouting and had even stopped taking food. It may be mentioned here that, Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum had also been drugged on a regular basis. Following the seizure of the phone, Latifa turned completely wild and she even had started punching those who were trying to approach her.

At this stage, there had been too much scuffle between Sheikh Latifa and few of the maids and finally, she was grabbed by at least five maids, laid onto the floor and at the instruction of someone in the palace, she was beaten mercilessly for almost an hour before she went unconscious. Sheikha Latifa never got her conscious back.

A doctor was summoned who after checking pulse etc. The body remains of both the girls were secretly buried in a Dubai cemetery — and there has not been any trace of it. This is how the episode of Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum has ended. While people around the world are waiting for seeing Latifa back again to her aspired free life, her body remains must have by now already mixed into the soil of UAE.

It certainly was cold-blooded murders. Those, who until now have been waiting for Latifa — should now pray for her departed soul. I hope this is not true.
